Despite bad weather, the second “Celebrating the Blue Heart with Four-Legged Friends” event in Lipari, Aeolian Islands, took place with great enthusiasm. The event, promoted by the “S. Lucia” Comprehensive Institute with support from ENPA Lipari, combined environmental education, fun, and the heroism of rescue dogs, all to protect the sea and its animals.
The highly anticipated event, organized by the “S. Lucia” Comprehensive Institute in collaboration with the “Eolo a 4 zampe onlus” association, A.C.S. Palermo, and with the support of the ENPA Section of Lipari, was held in front of the Basilica of San Cristoforo in Canneto. The initiative was a great success, confirming how important it is to raise awareness among students, citizens, and tourists about respecting the sea and its inhabitants.
Four-legged heroes and a message of hope
The undisputed stars of the day were the rescue dogs, who, along with their handlers, gave a spectacular simulation of a sea rescue. Their demonstrations of techniques and readiness, which save lives on our coasts every summer, captivated and engaged the public. They showed the incredible bond and professionalism that unite these “superheroes” with their handlers. Special thanks go to ACS Rescue Dog for their impeccable availability and professionalism.
Concrete help for our less fortunate friends
The ENPA Section of Lipari played an active role in the event. Our volunteers had fun in the water with the rescue dogs and, as is tradition, distributed the beloved “Amici Cucciolotti” albums from Pizzardi Editore to the children. This initiative, which combines play with education about loving animals, has a dual value: it not only involves the little ones in spreading the importance of protecting animals and the marine environment, but it also helped collect food for our four-legged friends in the shelter and for the stray animals we care for.
The event, which was part of World Oceans Day, enjoyed the support of the Lipari Coast Guard, numerous local sponsors, and the families who believe in the educational power of this project every year. “Our small section had fun in the water with these superheroes, who were the stars of intense days at school and demanding tests in the water,” commented the ENPA volunteers, enthusiastic about the success achieved.
It was a special occasion that brought together the community, school, nature, and four-legged friendship, all with one big blue heart beating for the respect of all forms of life.
